In a band between the latitudes of 40 and 50 degrees south only few things can hold the strong westerly winds. It is not for nothing that this region has been described by the old sailors as "Roaring Forties". Only the southern tip of South America as well as the South Island of New Zealand are daring to face these winds.
The result of the struggle between land, ocean and wind are unique cloud formations.
